For those wishing to charter speedboat saling over to Raja Ampat Islands, the ideal time to get across is before 12:00 am local time or before the rising of sea water due to tidal waves. The speedboat usually smaller than the Marina Express boat makes it more sensitive to wave shock.
A special note should be obeyed by anyone who wants to sail to the Raja Ampat Islands by speedboat: if your Boat Master decides to postpone the departure of the boat due to inclement weather or a tidal rise or something else. then you must obey him. Never try negotiate or push the departure or you and your group to the boat captain. The ship master and crew operating in the waters of West Papua and the islands of Raja Ampat are professionals growing up by the nature in the waters. They have their own instinct and sensitivity of natural phenomena and weather.
Raja Ampat Regency Government realizes the lack of alternative transport facilities other than the route to reach the islands of Raja Ampat. In solving this, an airport named Marinda Airport was built by Raja Ampat Regency Government in the regency area near the capital of Raja Ampat, Waisai. The airport facility was formally inaugurated by Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia with EE Mangindaan together with the Governor of West Papua Abraham O. Atururi and the Regent of Raja Ampat Drs. Marcus Wanma MSi concurrently with the 9th anniversary (HUT) of Raja Ampat Regency on May 9, 2012. The inauguration of the airport was marked with the landing of twin otter (dual propeller) with a capacity of 30 people.
This newly-inaugurated Marinda airport has passenger terminal and other facilities. The airport will be further improved and developed not only to serve routes from regencies around Raja Ampat, but also national flights from numerous cities in Indonesia without transit in the city of Sorong. .
